Strategy for use of El Ayudante’s Medical Clinic

Background

Vital to El Ayudante’s vision for Nicaragua is the base of operations in Leon consisting of mission team housing, a child protection center and medical clinic. The ceremonial first block for the medical clinic was laid in July of 2004 by Dr. Alonso Medina, Director of Ruben Dario Public Clinic, with city and community leaders present. Construction of the 3,000 square foot clinic was completed in November of 2005.

El Ayudante’s philosophy of ministry includes honoring and working through existing authority. We have worked closely with MINSA (Nicaraguan Health Ministry) in medical related ministry in Nicaragua. This has included the bringing in of medicines and medical equipment, conducting medical clinics which have treated thousands, and capital improvements for Reparto Ruben Dario Public Clinic and Ceasar Amador Molina Regional Hospital in Matagalpa.

Strategy

Recently, MINSA and El Ayudante officials finalized strategies for the use of El Ayudante’s clinic. MINSA officials and El Ayudante concluded that El Ayudante’s clinic will become a specialty clinic from which 11 public health clinics in Leon will refer patients. These 11 health posts serve over 76,000 in Leon. Addressing women’s health issues will be the priority. The clinic will also be used for various health care related seminars.

El Ayudante will be responsible for equipping and maintaining the clinic. MINSA will provide medical personnel to staff the clinic and will coordinate the referral of patients from the various health posts. Medical missionaries will partner with Nicaraguan medical personnel to provide medical care, equipment, medicines, and education.
